I am the guy who can kick your ass, did you know that? Welcome, Guest. Please login or register. Did you miss your activation email? The designer of the QED stopped working on the machine in early when Minelab sued him to stop further development of the machine that would have hurt sales their high end gold detectors.

Unfortunately, that should have been the end of the QED, but one of the testers helping the designer leaked the code to one of his friends who also wanted to build the machine and thanks to that tester, here we are! Enough for you to build you own machine. I'll take a look at that!

A few years ago I was involved in a lot of mostly theoretical talk about the capturing and analysis of pulse induction signals to improve discrimination. It never got much past that stage though and we all moved on.

Instead of making my own, I ended up buying a used Fisher F After owning it for nearly three years, I finally made my first profit with it I do not know both, but once i ever look closely on a famous gold detector board - what i found is it use high class passive components.

I still have my notes on it, have a see, sorry i have to hide most part of the pcb image. Hi Instead of arguing on an old technology - use the latest : Ti LDC IC who can be use as a very sensitive metal detector with the add of a micro controller and a display You can detect metal from distance and even distinguish from one another.

All the best Bobi. For anyone interested in metal detectors. Geotech forum is great resource. You will find many projects and information about metal detectors. I am going to build this for sure! For a better understanding of QED operating principles.

You can download the QED patent here. If you plan on going to Australia to do some detecting, do yourself a fasvour and build this detector. Buy a good used Coiltek, nuggetfinder ot Minelab coil from eBay and start building! There's a lot of people doing mods on this schematic on geotech and other forums that are well worth checking out. There's enough information in the file to build one from scratch! Does this QED really works?

I did some search and found mixed opinion, one said this one as vapourware? Any other good discriminating pulse induction detector around? I hasn't yet register on the geotech forum -ichan.I know who you are, where you live. Wanna dare avoiding rules? Welcome, Guest.

I thought I had the gain set to 0 dB. Turns out it was set to 20 dB since in the pictures that are in the manual white parts are the switches quite logical seeing as they're white in reality.

Just wanted to report this here in case anyone else is dumb enough to have the same problem. No hiss whatsoever with 0 gain. Joined Jan 1, Messages Reaction score Joined Jan 1, Posts Likes Quote: oderi said:. Quote: headhog said:. Not very reassuring you hear hiss at 20 db.

Update 23 August : I might have a new favorite. Update 17 September : And yet another. The answer: depends. There was a time when I was quite happy with the cheap and simple TL for most tasks. The article was written in and yet still mainly talks about the TL and the plus a little bit about a couple of newer designs later on.

The basic requirements are:. Those are somewhat conflicting requirements.

I need to find the right balance. The table below compares the basic audio-performance specs that I am interested with. For the benchmark, we have the and the TL Performance-wise, I consider anything on a par with or better than the suitable. It might even make sense to sacrifice a bit on one or two aspects.

For the hex pickup preamp, perhaps not.

The requirement for low power is in the list, but that requirement is now somewhat relaxed. It is still in the list because we want to be as general purpose as possible. However, if other subsystems such as MCUs or DSP processors consume a lot more power and will easily drain AAA batteries anyway, it makes sense to consider higher powered candidates with exceptional noise figures. Li-ion batteries. Come to think of it, is this the norm in this day and age of smart phones? The benchmark and its sibling, the and the TL are highlighted in yellow.

The OPA, with 0. What started out as a blog entry became a rather unending search for the right Op Amp. My current favorites have changed since then, partly due to shifting requirements. Now, there are more choices, highlighted in red, blue, light-green and dark-green, sorted from highest performance and highest power, to moderate performance and low power. For preamplifiers, the ones that are highlighted in blue are my current favorites with good overall balance.

This noise will end up as annoying hiss in subsequent stages, masking low-level details in the sound. Such details will end up being thrown away by the noise gate. I also added a bunch of very Op Amps from Japan with rather respectable specs. Cost, is also a concern.

Higher performance devices, obviously cost a lot more. You might want to scroll to the right to see the price of each Op Amp see note a1 and a2. Again, engineering is always a balance. Skip to content Menu Close Time flies!

Post 5, of 6, Interesting to know the new batch of Z2 employs The old batch used Perhaps, you may want to take a look at the OPA It's less noisy than OPA and it's more power efficient. However, you may as well want to check the input resistance to it. Pls check the datasheet for detail. Just from the top of my head. There should be a long list. Last edited: Apr 4, Share This Post.

Hi since end of the 90's the OPA has been a very good audio grade operational amplifier. Specs: Very Low Noise: 4. They are still manufactured and available. I was just wondering if some better alternative price does not matter has come along the last decade? What is the nr1 opamp choice for ultra low noise audio applications today for new designs or is this still the device to use?

Quote from: ebclr on May 23,am. Marco Super Contributor Posts: Country:. Why would you care about offset for audio? Quote from: Marco on May 23,am. OPA is generally good, while OPA has the best specs, but its specs deteriorate fast with low output impedance.

Also, OPA16x2 are somehow sensitive to input impedance, while LME, despite also being a bipolar input device, is not that sensitive to high input impedance. Both 3 part numbers are dual opamps in 8 pin SOIC package. Quote from: blueskull on May 23,am. Quote from: Kjelt on May 23,am.

No indeed for some of the prices you see at those chinese sites that is almost giving them away and should trigger the "fake" alarm with anybody who is serious. Kleinstein Super Contributor Posts: Country:. It depends on the circuit you use the OP.
