Nick and I both purchased Slim Pro s on the air and decided to go radio silent until the reviews were finished.

Mine is obviously below. I will also admit that I have a strong personal connection with the original and so that may bias this review. Me reviewing the Buck must be like a pen reviewer evaluating the Bic Crystal. It is part of knife collective unconscious, but with the Slim version there is enough of a difference from the iconic that this is a little less sacrilegious. In the first and final analysis this is a flawed knife. Its profile, the same as its beefier brother, is still damn near perfect with a strong though not as strong by comparison clip point with an easy, comfy handle.

The Bos pronounced: Boss, according to some guy named CJ Buck heat treat again works its magic, rendering the very good S30V steel into something near state of the art. But there are rough spots hereā€”blade play, a clip that looks like a novelty turkey leg from a traveling carnival, and a grind that could be a bit better.

But this is not simply a mixed bag. This is a knife with such good bones and some really superlative specs that it is vastly better the flaws would lead you to believe. Here is the product page. Do not confuse this knife with the Buck Pro, which is an original with G10 handles and all of the mass of the original. The Slim Pro comes in three different colorsā€”green, tan, and black micarta.

Here is the coordinated video review with Nick Shabazz. This is the first written review. Here is my review sample purchased with my funds :. Twitter Review Summary: A sterling revamp of a classic blade with a few flaws.

If you like knives and you dislike the lines of the you do not actually like knives. Simply put, this is a master class in great knife design and it has the history to prove it. The has been in production longer than I have been alive.

It has been in production since my mom was 9. If there is ever a case of the wisdom of crowds being true the is it.A quality pocket knife shall come in very handy from time to time due to its excellent characteristics.

Well, in case you appreciate folding designs, Buck Knives is a famous manufacturer in the industry that you should keep an eye out. Among their products, Buck and Buck are two nice examples.

Should you want to know more about them then this article can provide you with a detailed comparison: Buck vs Take a good look at it in order to make a wise decision. Due to variable preferences and tastes, not everyone would have the same opinion when it comes to Buck vs Many could feel one of the knives to be the better choice but the rest may think otherwise. That is why you should thoroughly inspect the Buck Knives products before you come up with the final decision.

If you just rush the purchase, you might buy a less than ideal knife that is simply a waste of money. So take some time to think about your needs and requirements, consider the usage condition as well to make a wise investment.

As you can tell right away from the figures above, Buck is considerably longer and heavier than Buck There are still many similarities between these knives though from the blade material to the knife handle. However, the differences in their bulk and dimension mean these Buck Knives products shall have contrasting performances in certain situations.

Buck 110CFSLE Slim Pro - Carbon Fiber

Both of them are nonetheless reliable and durable knives or everyday carry. If you happen to be looking for an EDC knife then you would probably find what you need in one of the knives. Buck and Buck utilize HC Steel in their blade, the material gets dull fairly quickly but the sharpening is a walk in the park. Therefore, the edge retention of these knives is mediocre at best but they would become super sharp after a sharpening.

Many people really appreciate this characteristic of the Buck Knives products. In term of blade shape, both Buck and Buck use a clip point design which permits excellent piercing power.

The blade length of Buck makes it a handy tool for slicing and skinning, Buck is not terrible at those tasks as well. But since Buck is more compact, its mobility and versatility are commendable in most of the case. The bow-shaped handle of Buck and Buck provide the user with admirable comfort and ergonomic. Because the balance point is located in the middle of the Dymondwood handle, these knives have great handling characteristics. There is simply nothing which can cause you to feel uncomfortable while holding the handle though accurate control is barely feasible.

These knives would still offer you a solid performance in a variety of environment and situation. Buck and Buck all employ the same locking mechanism which is a rear lock design. While it cannot complete with later mechanisms like frame lock or liner lock, the rear lock is not half bad either. The lock is sturdy, reliable and the engagement process is straightforward, these characteristics make the lock work decently for most of the time. However, it advised not to push the look beyond its limit, the mechanism is unable to deal with heavy duty prying and alike.

There is no choil around so if the lock fails, these knives are finished for good. Buck Knives tend to provide their customer with a full grain leather sheath for Buck and Buck However, in some cases, you would receive a low-cost nylon sheath instead.

On the other hand, the leather sheath is thick with strong stitching and durable rivet. The backside belt loop should able to attach the sheath to any standard size belt without fail. Buck is a good knife to have if you appreciate its crushing force and penetration power. In the case you like Buck but want a knife with even greater mobility and versatility, Buck shall not let you down.

And that is most of what you should know about the Buck Knives products, quite simple to absorb, right? But with the help of the information above, you should be able to come up with an informed decision. The classic Buck Folding Hunter Modelintroduced inmay not be the first folding hunting knife ever made. The handle had a comfortable curve that tended to keep fingers from sliding forward onto the sharpened edge of the blade.

The original Model was an expensive knife for the time, but it looked the part, with wood handle scales, brass liners, pins and bolsters. Its success made Buck a "major" knife maker.

It is still in the line and remains one of the best selling knives in the US. The Folding hunter Pro that is the subject of this review is a new for variation of the classic original that preserves all of the original's best features, while introducing some modern improvements. The overall shape of blade and handle remain the same in the Pro, but the materials have been upgraded, as follows. The handle scales are durable, black G10, a premium scale material.

They have a very fine checkered pattern for an improved grip. The handle is slightly thicker than my Modelmaking it more comfortable in the hand. It is hard to beat the look of the Macassar ebony wood used in the handle scales of the standard Modelbut the new Pro still looks good and feels better. The liners, bolsters and pins are nickel silver, stronger than brass and very tarnish resistant.

The brass bolsters of the original quickly tarnish with handling and turn green if stored in the supplied leather sheath.

110 Folding HunterĀ® Pro Knife

It is the color of sterling silver and also polished stainless steelbut does not contain any actual silver. The integral bolsters and liners are very thick and heavy, providing great mass in which to anchor the stronger pins of the Pro. Few folding knives are this massively strong. The back lock has also been subtly improved. The locking mechanism is extremely strong and virtually impossible to force.

The clip point blade pattern of the original remains, but the blade material has been upgraded from HC stainless steel to S30V super steel. This is the most important and expensive upgrade.

S30V is expensive to buy and work from the manufacturer's perspective. However, it was developed in the US specifically as a blade steel and provides the ultimate in performance. It is very hard, with excellent wear resistance, toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance, but it is more difficult to sharpen than ordinary blade steels. Diamond or ceramic sharpening stones are the way to go with S30V. Buck Knives describes S30V steel this way:. S30V contains carbon as well as high amounts of Chromium, Molybdenum and Vanadium.

This steel combines fantastic edge retention and high ductility combined with corrosion resistance. Double-tempered, it can be hardened to a Rockwell hardness of Rc However, it is difficult to resharpen yourself, but we do offer sharpening services for a nominal fee. This is a hunting knife, not a pocket knife. Carry it in the supplied sheath, as you would a fixed blade hunter. Even the S30V steel is American made. The supplied black leather sheath, however, is made in Mexico.Forgot Password?
